Works in Progress
Lots of people are asking me, "Are you writing another book? Is there going to be a sequel to The Casket Girl?"
The answers to those questions are "yes", emphatically, and "maybe". I am currently making progress on several new works. The first is an entirely different novel, now in the stages of being considered for representation. It is called The Green Veil. The story takes place in the 1840's during the early days of the logging boom in Wisconsin Territory. Here's a brief synopsis:
Always ruled by a compassionate nature, Colette Palmer's impulsive heart has led her to marry rashly, despite the tug of longing for a childhood love. Soon she finds herself separated by a veil of jealousy and isolation in the deep woods of Wisconsin where she must learn again to hear God's still, small voice without quenching His Spirit inside her.
Manason Kade is a man fighting his own desires and impulses, even while he pursues his dreams. But can a self-made man who is building an empire in the Wisconsin pine lands recognize the emptiness of his achievements outside a greater purpose and call on his life?
And what happens when the lives of these two individuals collide with that of Harris Eastman, a man who wields control over those around him with a scepter of ambition, who's greatest desire is to produce a son and heir, and who's greatest sins lie like rancorous weeds in his heart, choking out the waters of his soul?
Meanwhile, I've almost completed a sequel with the working title of The Red Fury. The Red Fury takes place about twenty years after The Green Veil. Book 3 is titled The Black Rose.
You can find a complete description of the series by clicking on the Empire in Pine Series tab.
Changing genre tracks, I'm looking forward to the publication of a novel called: Trevelyan: a Tale of Beauty and the Beast. In this fantasy retelling of the traditional tale, Belle's three brothers are each engaged in their own perilous misadventures as they seek to rescue her from the Monster Lord. Helped and hindered by a variety of characters along the way including faeries, elves, an abominale snowmonster, and two dandies both in pursuit of Belle's heart, they have their own lessons and loves to contend with. Meanwhile, Belle's two jealous and covetous sisters are torn over whether or not she should be rescued at all. Stay tuned for updates on this book.
In other veins:
Not For Love is a short historical romance, not quite a novella, currently seeking a publishing home.
In 1880's Wisconsin, what can a young, bereaved widow with no financial resources do to hang onto the farmstead that is dear to her? Maggie Duncan, with the help of a reticent circuit riding preacher, sends a letter to the logging camps of the north woods, hoping to find a new husband in name only, someone who will help her run the place. Her only prayer is that God won't send her any fools. When woodsman Jack McAllister, an old acquaintance of Maggie's husband, hears the letter read, he wonders: might he be the man for the farm—or possibly the man for Maggie?
I am also working on organizing a collection of homeschooling essays I've written over the past 14+ years for my ezine www.applesofgoldnews.com . They are written as an encouragement to homeschoolers from the novice to the veteran. Some of these essays have sprouted ideas that I've been developing into new articles which I've been contributing to Home School Enrichment magazine, www.homeschoolenrichment.com , a magazine I highly recommend to homeschoolers everywhere!
There are always more works in progress. Besides those I've mentioned, I hope to begin a book with an historical aspect based on the voyegeurs of the great lakes. This book will be in the flavor of The Casket Girl, but with a different twist entirely. At least, I think so . . . Time will tell, and that's the Adventure of Writing!
Please feel free to leave comments for me in the guest book. Or write to me at at muschfarm@yahoo.com I love to hear from you!
